214 Cases Decided In 12 Days By Model Courts: LHC CJ

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Feb, 2017 ) : Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Monday said that 214 cases were decided in just 12 days by model courts in four districts under Criminal Justice Pilot Project.
Briefing the media about the pilot project, he said that it was launched on February 1, 2017 in four districts in accordance with the vision of Apex Court judge, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, to improve the criminal justice system.
He said that 104 cases were decided in Attock, 35 in Chiniot, 22 in Narowal and 55 in Vehari by February 12. He said that model courts were working efficiently under the leadership of respective sessions Judges including Sohail Nasir (Attock), Zafar Iqbal Naeem (Chiniot), Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan (Narowal) and Muhammad Saeed Ullah (Vehari).
In order to ensure efficient disposal of cases, he said, the cases were being heard on day to day basis and dates of trials were pre-fixed with the consultation of prosecutors and defence counsels.
"There is a remarkable improvement in the services rendered by the police by ensuring the presence of all witnesses required in the trial", he added. He said that cooperation of bar and prosecution was also important factor in the success of the pilot project and counsels appearing in these cases were also being accommodated by the High Court for allocating special dates of hearings.
He said the pilot project was a big success and the pattern would be implemented across the province after the trial period.
