As many as 32,331 acres land was brought under cultivation in erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) by completing 7 dam projects, 27 small irrigation schemes in last few years.
According to Fata Development Authority (FDA) official, a huge population of the tribal area was benefiting from the projects.
FDA has completed Sheen Kach Dam; Upstream Stone Pitching; Pir Qayuum Irrigation Channel; Kurram Irrigation Channel; Moto Shah Dam; Dargai Pal Dam; Walay Kalay Irrigation Scheme, etc in last few years.
He said another project, Bara dam would also be constructed on Bara River in Khyber Agency with the estimated cost of Rs 20.651 million in a period of five years. Dam will generate 6 mw power besides irrigating 41,729 acres of the tribal areas.
The process of preparing the PC-I of the dam, having 302 feet height was initiated in 2002.
It will generate annual energy 29.14 GWh.
Rs 14.2080 billion had already been approved for PC-I. Tenders were issued in December 2009 and April 2010, but no bid was received due to worst law and order situation. The PC-II of the Bara Dam has already been submitted in the Special Central Development Working Party (CDWP).
Bara Dam will also produce 5400 million gallon per year of treated water to meet the drinking water needs of adjoining areas of FATA and Peshawar.
Feasibility study was completed in 2008 by NESPAK under Fata Development Authority (FDA).
