LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Aug, 2017 ) : The Registered Exporter (REX) System will be active and operational all over the world by the end of 2019, and 900 exporters from Pakistan have so far been registered with this system.
Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) consultant Kamal Shaharyar stated this while addressing a seminar on the Registered Exporters System of European Union for the issuance of Certificate of Origin.
The event was organised by TDAP Lahore at the conference room of Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA), here on Thursday. Kamal stated that the REX System is the system of Certificate of Origin of Goods that applies to the Generalised System of Preference (GSP) of the European Union and observance of the same is mandatory for all exporters to the European Union countries.
He told the participants that the system was based on the principle of self-certification by economic operators, who by themselves will be able to make out the Statements of Origin.
To be eligible to make out the Statement of Origin, an economic operator will have to be registered into the EU database by the TDAP, Kamal said and added that the REX System will progressively and completely replace the current System of Origin Certification, based on Certificates of Origin, issued by the TDAP.
He said that besides the EU, the REX registration would also be valid for Norway and Switzerland. Mian Riaz Ahmad, Director General TDAP, Lahore said that Pakistan was required to switch completely to the REX System by the end of 2017 and for that matter, the TDAP was fully committed to achieving the target in length and spirit. A large number of exporters attended the seminar.
