:Lahore High Court (LHC) Friday stopped Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from issuing the notification of successful candidate from NA-108.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Aug, 2018 ) :Lahore High Court (LHC) Friday stopped Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from issuing the notification of successful candidate from NA-108.
Justice Shahid Karim passed the orders on a petition filed by runner up Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Abid Sher Ali who had approached the court for second recount in the constituency.
Earlier, the petitioner's counsel submitted that his client lost election from NA-108 to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate Farrukh Habib by a thin margin.
He mentioned that a recount was conducted on his client's request but the returning officer declared Habib successful by a margin of 1201 votes.
The counsel questioning the election results of the constituency leveled various allegations and pleaded with the court to order second recount and stop the issuance of notification of successful candidate till the process was completed.
At this, the court stopped ECP from issuing notification of Farrukh Habib's success and issued notices to the respondents for August 7 and sought their response.
Meanwhile, the court also stopped ECP from issuing notification of victory of PML-N candidate Hamid Hameed from NA-90.
The court passed the orders on a petition filed by PTI's runner up candidate Nadia Aziz who had submitted that the counting of votes at polling stations in the constituency was flawed whereas the returning officer had rejected her request for a recount.
She pleaded with the court to issue directions for vote recount and stop the notification of her rival candidate's victory until the recount was completed.
The court after hearing initial arguments stopped ECP from issuing notification and issued notice to the respondents for August 7.
