Advisor to Chief Minister Balochistan for Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Abdul Khaliq Hazara on Tuesday highlighted the importance of media in the development of society, saying, the face of Pakistani media was being changed and and women were the catalysts of this transformation
He expressed these views while addressing a closing ceremony of the five-day training program organized by Pakistan Women Media Center for Mass Communication students of different institutes here at Press Club.
He said that media persons always worked with devotion and highlighted the issues faced by the province. The government was working towards resolving the difficulties faced by the media and taking serious steps for the welfare of the journalist community.
He said that print and electronic media should had to highlight the steps and policies adopted by the government for development, welfare and stability of the province in addition to the issues of the public.
While addressing the ceremony, he applauded the efforts made by Pakistan Women Media Center for enhancing professional capabilities and skills of women journalists.
The CM advisor stressed female journalists to launch a campaign for creating awareness among women about the importance of their vote and increase their participation in decision making process.
He said that it was impossible to accomplish development goals if women were denied meaningful political participation.
No country could reach its optimal potential if its female citizens were denied full equality, he added.
He further said countries that are succeeding today have involved women in the decision-making processes and that was improving their living standards and ensuring development. While the state has a responsibility to put in effort, individual women also have a responsibility on them to use their right to vote and play a rightful role as a key agent of change, he added.
He further said that an industry that was traditionally run by men was witnessing a gender shift, more women have entered the Pakistani news media industry during the last decade than ever before. The number of women journalists was increasing in urban centres, in English-language newspapers, and in news channels, he added.
"Corruption is the biggest obstacle in the path of development, media should also play its full role in eradicating this social evil from our country", he said.
Fauzia Shaheen Head of the WMC on this occasion while underscoring the details of the five-day training program in Quetta, said that female journalists in Balochistan though accomplishing tasks in diverse sectors, need to expand their professional capabilities and streamline themselves in the pitch of politics also. He added that in this way they could help Balochistan's women to have equitable opportunities of participation in political set up.
