SWAT, Oct 7 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Oct, 2022 ) ::An already imposed ban on illegal mining in Swat river sites has been further extended for 60 days under Section 144 by District Magistrate Swat Junaid Khan on Friday.
The ban was imposed by the Swat district administration after taking strict notice of the ongoing illegal mining including gravel and sand extraction in the river limits.
The order said that due to illegal mining and quarrying, aquatic life in the Swat River is seriously threatened and at the same time stagnant water at mining sites has led to the breeding of mosquitoes like dengue and malaria due to which serious health problems are arising in the district.
The order said that illegal mining is a major cause of damage to protective embankments, bridges, and public property, adding that mining could lead to flooding in monsoons.
The order said that with the onset of winter and the fall in the water level, such activities intensified, and for these reasons the ban became necessary. In case of violation of the ban, strict action will be taken under Section 188 PPC, the order said.
