LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Jan, 2017 ) : A full bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday summoned the chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC), vice chancellor Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) and others for January 30 on petitions filed by BZU Lahore campus students seeking alternate arrangements for completion of their studies in Lahore.
As the bench headed by Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi started the proceedings, Provincial Minister Zaeem Qadri and Advocate General Punjab Shakeel ur Rehman Khan appeared before the bench.
The advocate general Punjab requested the bench to exempt the minister from court proceedings. However, the bench declined the request. On behalf of the BZU, the bench was apprised that the enrolment of BZU Lahore campus students were in progress at Multan campus but students of physiotherapy discipline could not be enroled due to unavailability of the faculty and non- affiliation with hospital.
The bench observed that it was a serious matter and nobody would be allowed to play with students future. The ex-chairman BZU Lahore campus submitted that he was ready to hand over the Lahore campus building to the university administration without rent so that students interested to complete their education in Lahore could continue studies here.
At this, the bench directed him to submit the offer in writing and held that it would ensure that the students interested to complete their education in Lahore could continue their studies. To a court query, advocate general Punjab briefed the court that the students interested to complete their education in Lahore had approached the Advocate general office, as per court directions.
He submitted that 638 forms had been received so far. The bench adjourning the hearing till January 30 summoned chairman HEC, VC BZU and others to know their stance on offer made by the former chairman.
The bench also sought complete record of Lahore campus students. Petitioners Usman and others had submitted that BZU Lahore campus students had been asked to enrol at Multan campus for further education. They pleaded the court to direct authorities to make alternate arrangements for completion of students' studies in Lahore.
