CISNR UET Peshawar Starts Awareness Sessions On "Electrocure" Experts Share Innovative Solutions For Line Loss Reduction

The Centre for Intelligent Systems and Networks Research (CISNR), University of Engineering and Technology (UET)Peshawar commenced its awareness series of seminars on "Electrocure: Innovative Solutions for Losses Reduction" here Thursday.
PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Aug, 2018 ) :The Centre for Intelligent Systems and Networks Research (CISNR), University of Engineering and Technology (UET)Peshawar commenced its awareness series of seminars on "Electrocure: Innovative Solutions for Losses Reduction" here Thursday.
The seminars are aimed to create public awareness to curb electricity theft and line losses through cost effective innovative solutions designed by CISNR with the financial assistance of Ministry of ICT (R&D).
Project Director CISNR, Dr. Gul Muhammad said, PESCO and CISNR, UET Peshawar have successfully executed two projects "Electrocure" which was installed in Rahatabad to detect and curb instances of electricity theft and "Meterocure", installed in Hayatabad subdivision to improve the billing efficiency and eliminate instances of over and under billing and curb billing anomalies.
He said, the results have shown a significant decrease in over and under billing and electricity theft in selected regions which was not possible without PESCO's commitment to implement this innovative technology. Describing benefits of electrocure, he said, through this devise, major benefits include real time monitoring, meter less infrastructure, theft proof smart metering, efficient energy and cost management.
Dr. Gul said, unfortunately there are no statistics available on demand and supply of electricity and line loss, they are causing a huge impact on national economy.
The major reasons, he said included lack of information and awareness among consumers regarding available innovative solutions and outdated infrastructure. "CISNR would hold a series of awareness sessions in different cities in collaboration of the Ministry of ICT (R&D) to educate the civil society towards this pressing issue," he added.
Noman Wazir Khattak, Member Senate of Pakistan (Convener Senate Standing Committee on Power) was the chief guest on the occasion. He appreciated the efforts of CISNR and said that the Government would take all measures to provide support to the academia to establish strong linkages with industry. He said, cheap electricity supply to the locals was the right of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for having a location advantage. He urged the engineering students to come up with innovative solutions towards mitigating electricity theft, line loss and find cost effective solutions for the society. Muhammad Akbar Khan Chief Operational Officer, PESCO also spoke on the occasion.
Dean Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Prof Dr. Naeem Arbab, Director Training PESCO, Akhtar Hameed, Registrar UET Peshawar Dr. Khizar Azam, officials from PESCO and the Military Engineering Services were present on the occasion.
