CM Expresses Displeasure Over Poor Traffic System

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Nov, 2016 ) : Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday expressed extreme displeasure over poor traffic system in the city and other big cities of the province and strongly reprimanded institutions concerned.
He was presiding over a meeting to review traffic system in big cities and reforms for its improvement, here. He said it was high time for institutions concerned to deliver results and facilitate the masses.
He added traffic jams and waste of time of people on roads would not be tolerated. He said provincial departments and concerned institutions had been provided resources and they will have to give results.
Shehbaz Sharif said in spite of development of infrastructure, widening of roads and construction of fly-overs and underpasses, people were still facing traffic problems which was lamentable. The chief minister said people of Lahore and other big cities of Punjab were facing traffic problems and had to wait for hours due to which government servants, students and other segments of society could not reach their offices and destinations in time.
He said there was a need to meet new challenges of traffic management due to growing population and it was responsibility of departments concerned and institutions to carry out comprehensive planning.
Shehbaz Sharif said that he was fully aware of the problems of people with regard to traffic system and he was answerable to Almighty Allah and the masses. He said that he had been elected by people to serve them and it was his responsibility to resolve their problems.
He said that he was working round the clock for the improvement of the system and provision of maximum facilities to the citizens and existing traffic situation was tolerable to him.
He said had the departments concerned and institutions made proper planning, used modern technology and taken effective steps for traffic management, the situation would have been different.
He said people should be facilitated by maintaining a smooth flow of traffic. He said the departments concerned would have to perform their duties efficiently and improve traffic system at any cost.
He said that there was no shortage of resources and funds had been given to concerned institutions and departments and they will have to give results. The chief minister said that improvement of traffic system for the benefit of citizens was a collective responsibility of departments and institutions concerned and they will have to show a responsible attitude.
He said that it was regrettable that Lahore Parking Company had not brought rotary parking machines despite passage of several months. He said that these machines would have helped in resolving parking issue.
He said that decisions taken in the meetings for improving traffic system had not been implemented in letter and spirit. He said time had come for institutions concerned to make all out efforts for the improvement of traffic system.
He said that he would personally head the steering committee set up for improving traffic system and would review measures for facilitating the masses on regular basis. Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah, Special Assistant Rana Maqbool Ahmed, Member Provincial Assembly Jahangir Khanzada, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, Secretary Home, senior authorities of concerned departments and officers of traffic police attended the meeting.
