ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Nov, 2018 ) :The citizens of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad Friday sought authorities' concerns strong action against those traders involved in prices hike without any justification blaming the incumbent government for their own deeds.

"Shopkeepers and vendors are demanding high prices even for the petty edibles of daily use without any justification," complained Tanveer Sheikh a citizen of Islamabad. He regretted that "Shopkeepers were at liberty to raise prices of their products as and when they want and no authority seems to be active to stop them." "I have been buying grocery for a month and paying the increased cost on every object after every month," Ayesha Aamir, a resident of Rawalpindi said.

She said on an inquiry of price raise they did not have any solid and satisfying reason instead they put all the blame on the government, she further said.

"They sarcastically remark that you desired for a change and the change has finally arrived", she added.

Asad Malik a citizen said that prices of fuel were gradually increasing which enhanced the cost of edibles and traders were compelled to raise the prices. but he said once the prices were adjusted there was however no justification to increase them at their own.

A shopkeeper Sultan Raza has also his justification saying, "We also have families to feed and facing the economical problems due to sudden price hike of items and want to see flourish our business.

" If more customers would have buying powers more their business would grow.

A fruit and vegetable retailer Tauqeer Ahmed said that he followed and executed the daily rate list accordingly, provided by the local authorities.

When contacted Chairman Market Committee he said "the rate lists are weekly revised and especially whenever government raises the prices of petroleum products." We dispatch list to the shop-owners immediately and order them to follow them strictly, he remarked.

He claimed that the prices of the edibles have gone down as compared to the past five years and admitted the traders, at their own free will, were increasing prices.

"The action is taken against profiteers and city magistrate, assistant commissioners and deputy commissioners are bound to keep a strict check on edibles quality and to control the prices," he added.

Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat said "We had welcomed the public to bring forward the queries and complaints against the violators. We have already closed down many shops for violating the law and imposed heavy fine to stop the evil of profiteering," he said.

He said he was accessible on social media and citizens were encouraged to register their complaints and "strict action is guaranteed against violators"
