The court has also sought a report to include point system in the issuance of driving licenses.

Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 13th December, 2018) In another step to ensure observance of traffic rules in the city, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered to suspend the driving license of those repeatedly violating the traffic rules.

LHC judge Justice Akbar Qureshi held the hearing of the case on Thursday.

The court has also sought a report to include point system in the issuance of driving licenses.

The government’s counsel told the court said that the citizens are being given awareness about traffic rules. Points will be added in the new driving license.

He further said that the driving license of those repeatedly violating traffic rules and getting lower points will be suspended.

The court then sought an implementation report on the committee formed to add points system in driving license.

Ordering to suspend the license of routine violators, the court ordered to take action against over speeding on roads.

The court ordered the Safe City Authority chief executive to submit a complete report on December 17 and adjourned the hearing of the case.

The point system is used in developed countries, including Europe, to ensure observance of traffic laws.

Earlier, the LHC had made wearing a helmet compulsory for pillion riders. The court had ordered to challan the riders if they violate the helmet rule besides ordering a crackdown against motorcyclists not having side mirrors on their bikes.

A special crackdown was carried out across Punjab to implement traffic rules and laws including use of helmets, lane and line discipline, use of rear mirrors, rear and front lights and others.

The mandatory use of helmet by motorcyclists has caused upto 80 percent reduction in major head injuries in road accidents as the City Traffic Police (CTP) started crackdown against violation of helmet rule from September 24 onwards.
