FATF delegation reaches Pakistan for talks

ISLAMABAD (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th March, 2019) : A delegation of the Asia-Pacific Group (APG), a regional affiliate of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), will start 3-day talks with Pakistan delegation from today.If Pakistan satisfies FATF group with reference to matters related to financing terrorists and prevention of money laundering then it is all right otherwise this is last opportunity for Pakistan.The delegation of the Asia-Pacific Group (APG), a regional affiliate of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), has arrived in the Federal capital and it will hold talks with Pakistan delegation from Tuesday to Thursday.Pakistan delegation will comprise heads of law enforcement agencies, finance ministry, state bank, FIA and SECP.The second draft Mutual Evaluation Report (MER) will be reviewed during talks that what steps have been taken by Pakistan for preventing financial assistance to terrorists and money laundering.

This is last chance with Pakistan to satisfy Asian Specific group and in case If Pakistan fails to satisfy the FATF delegation to remove its name from the "grey list", then a new plan of action can be given to the country.It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan had filed reply to its first report on January 22, 2019 wherein recommendation were made for improvement in ranking.

But FATF has not improved rating of Pakistan and nor has it attached any importance to Pakistan arguments.Pakistan authorities which will enter into talks with the delegation have said that Pakistan has taken solid steps for preventing bankrolling to the terrorists.

Pakistan has also launched effective measures to stop money laundering. Pakistan has started crackdown on proscribed outfits and ban has been imposed on Jamat ul Dawat and Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation.
