Girls Sports Gala, Blood Donation Camp Organized At PMAS-AAUR

RAWALPINDI, Jan 4 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 04th Jan, 2017 ) :- Girls Sports Gala and a blood donation camp for Thalassemia patients were organized here on Wednesday at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR).
Managing Director (MD) Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh visited the blood donation camp while Senator Najma Hameed was chief guest at girls' sports gala. MNA Tahira Aurngzaib, MPAs Tehseen Fawad, Zaib-un-Nisa, Sobia Satti, Lubna Rehan Pirzada, Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR Prof.
Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Deans, Directors, faculty members and a large number of students were present. The blood donation camp was held in collaboration with Thalassemia Center of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM), which drew a huge response from the students especially girls who turned up to donate blood for the patients suffering from Thalassemia.
More than 100 students and faculty members donated blood at the camp which was held at the university main campus. The colorful girls' sports gala was organized by PMAS-AAUR Directorate of Sports aimed at providing female students an opportunity to explore their talent in a practical way.
Students from various departments showed their sports spirit and enthusiasm by participating in different sports activities including Badminton, Chatti Race, Musical Chair, handkerchief snatching and tug of war etc.
The students of the University Literacy school also participated in the sports Sack Race and Ball throw in the Basket. Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh visiting the blood donation camp said that the practice of voluntarily blood donation is very low in Pakistan as compared to the developed countries and patients especially who required regular blood transfusion are miserably suffering.
Underlining the need to create awareness among the masses regarding thalassemia he urged the students to continue actively participating in welfare activities especially those targeting the poor section of the society.
Senator Najma Hameed and MNA Tahira Aurngzaib addressing the participants of the sports gala said, women are half of the country's population and through healthy sports activities, they can be prepared for the tough future challenges.
A woman can play an important role to uplift the society, they added. They said, the present government was trying to provide better opportunities for extracurricular events to the youth so that they could play their role in nation building.
At the end, the chief guest along with the VC and MPAs Tehseen Fawad, Zaib-un-Nisa, Sobia Satti, Lubna Rehan Pirzada distributed prizes and shields among the students who got top positions in different competitions.
Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad said, such extracurricular activities were essential for the personality development of the students. He said sports were an integral part of education and the objective to hold the sports gala was to involve the students in healthy activities.
Earlier, speaking at the blood donation camp, the VC urged the students to donate blood and highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation in protecting precious human lives. He also appreciated the donation of blood by female students.
