Govt Believes In Media Independence: Shibli Faraz

Leader of the House in the Senate Shibli Faraz Thursday said that the government believes in complete independence of media and has no role in the downsizing drive of media persons by their respective media houses.
Responding to opposition remarks, he said the government was with the media persons. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government (PTI) came into power with active support of media. Downsizing was the decision of media house owners and government could not be held responsible for that.
Vowing to eradicate the menace of corruption from the society as the people had mandated the PTI for purging the country of corruption. Treasury will continue raising public interest issue especially corruption as it should not be considered as humiliation to anyone.
He stressed the need for depoliticizing the state institutions. Lauding the opposition, he thanked the opposition for their cooperation to maintain tranquility in the House smoothly.
Speaking on the occasion, Opposition Leader Raja Zafar-ul-Haq said that they have no objection on raising corruption issues, but the accountability process must be conducted across the board instead of opposition centric.
He said there should be a comprehensive system of accountability and the corrupt should be dealt with iron hands. There should be no choice, no favourites.
