Says government has nothing to do Asif Zardari’s arrest
Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 10th June, 2019) The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
Interior Minister Ijaz Shah has reacted to the arrest of former president.
Addressing the National Assembly on Monday, the interior minister said that the government has nothing to do Asif Zardari’s arrest. These are mere court orders, he added.
He said that the decision to arrest Zardari was taken by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and government has no role in it.
Ijaz Shah further said that NAB was not established by the current government.
Asif Zardari was shifted to NAB Rawalpindi from Zardari House amid tight security.
Zardari's children, including Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Bhutto, besides several PPP leaders were present outside Zardari House on the occasion.
The former president will be produced before the court tomorrow where NAB will seek his remand.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) rejected Zardari and Talpur's bail plea in the mega money laundering case on Monday.
A two-member IHC bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani heard Zardari’s bail plea in the fake accounts case against the former president.
Announcing the verdict, the bench rejected Zardari's bail plea.
Asif Zardari and his sister had left the court before the verdict was announced. The NAB teams were ready to arrest the PPP co-chairman from there. Zardari and Talpur reached Zardari House where they consulted their legal team.
The NAB team also arrived at Zardari House to arrest him. Zardari resisted the arrest demanding court orders.
A special alert has been issued to the Islamabad police over possible arrest of PPP co-chairman Zardari. Police have been directed to maintain law and order in case of his arrest.
