Int'l Conference On Language, Literature, Society Starts From Thursday

ISLAMABAD, Jan 4 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 04th Jan, 2017 ) : A four-day international conference on "Language, Literature and Society" aimed at projecting soft image of Pakistan would start here from Thursday.

Addressing a press conference, Chairman Pakistan academy of Letters (PAL) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qasim Bughio said keeping in view present national and international scenario, writers community of Pakistan emphasized on holding an international conference under the auspices of PAL with the view to highlight the soft image of Pakistan.

He said the purpose of the said conference is to explore the contribution of literature and academia in bringing about positive changes in the society. "Writers, linguists, research scholars and academics from across the globe will participate in the conference to exchange their research work and developments in the field," he said.

He said the conference aimed to deepen understanding of contemporary literature being produced in context of peace building and social development of different countries around the globe. He said the main goal of the conference was to seek and explore new and innovative trends and challenges of research in Language and Literature across the world and its impact on society.

Prof. Dr Qasim Bughio said the Conference would promote studies in the field of languages, linguistics and society and would serve as an international forum for researchers, scholars, educators, practitioners, postgraduate students and experts in relevant fields to exchange ideas, research results and good practices.

Chairman PAL said around 500 papers were received out of which 350 were recommended by the scrutiny committee. He said the salient features of the conference included participation of 375 scholars and eminent writers from all over the country and abroad.

The other major components of activities were inaugural and concluding ceremonies, academic and literary sessions, Mushaira, play, folk and cultural show. He said in addition to 350 paper presenters, another 250 distinguished poets, fiction writers and intellectuals were also invited for the occasion out of which 100 would speak as well; this included speakers of English, urdu and other Pakistani languages plus around 150 fiction writers, poets and intellectual from twin-city of Islamabad and Rawalpindi will grace the occasion.

Moreover, foreign scholars from Turkey, Lebanon, Uzbekistan, Spain, Maldives, China, Azerbaijan, Singapore, Nepal and Oman would participate in the conference. APP/amr/asg
