LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2019 ) :Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) on Monday urged the government to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the industry during holy month of Ramazan.
LCCI President Almas Hyder told the media here that with addition of substantial electricity to the national grid after completion of various power projects, the industry should be supplied electricity continuously.
He mentioned that in the past years, the industry had to face load-shedding during holy month of Ramazan as the then governments did not have adequate power for the industry after catering to the domestic users. He said that all system constraints should be removed to avoid power shut downs for the industrial sector keeping in view the hot weather condition and high consumption of electricity. The DISCOs (power distribution companies) should have sufficient stock of transformers, cables, polls and all other necessities to keep the things under control, he demanded.
Almas Hyder said, "Industrial sector is the ray of hope for economic stability of the country. It needs all kinds of support from the government including uninterrupted electricity supply so that it can bring more foreign exchange to the country besides providing jobs to the people." LCCI Senior Vice President Khawaja Shahzad Nasir and Vice President Faheem-ur-Rehman Saigal said, Pakistan had since long been facing serious power failure due to over-loading which had not only plunged country into darkness but also caused huge losses to the industry. He stressed the need for removing all weaknesses of power transmission and distribution system to avoid any sort power failure.
LCCI office-bearers urged the authorities not to tolerate any laxity towards the upgradation of power transmission and distribution system as any negligence could cause huge loss to the trade, industry and economy.
