LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Feb, 2018 ) :A Lahore High Court division bench on Wednesday disposed of a petition, seeking directions for public hanging of convict Imran Ali in Zainab murder case, after being withdrawn.
The bench comprising Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Shehram Sarwar Ch heard the petition filed by one Ejaz Ahmad. The bench during the hearing observed that the petition had been filed well before time as the convict had yet not exhausted all three forums of appeal against his conviction.
The petition could not be heard unless the convict had exhausted all options, it added. To which, the petitioner's counsel Ishtiaq Ahmad Chaudhry sought permission for withdrawing the petition for public hanging of the convict.
At this, the bench accepted the request and disposed of the matter.
The petitioner had sought directions for public hanging of convict Imran Ali saying that he committed a heinous crime. He submitted that no amendment in law was required for the purpose as the Punjab government could order for public hanging of the convict under Section 22 of Anti-Terrorism Act.
He pleaded with the bench to issue directions to the government for the purpose besides requesting that the culprit should be hanged at the venue where victim Zainab's body was found. On Feb 17, Anti-terrorism Court Judge Sajjad Ahmad handed down death sentence on four counts to Imran Ali in rape and murder case of seven-year-old Zainab.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 3.2 million on the convict besides sentencing him to seven years and life term.
