LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2019 ) :A Lahore High Court (LHC) five-member bench on Tuesday issued a contempt notice to a Punjab University female academic over ruckus during the court proceedings.
The bench headed by Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi issued the notice to academic, Khujista Rehan, associated with PU Law College, after she ignored court's repeated warnings to calm down during the proceedings on a plea filed by Dr Nayab Batool, another teacher at the varsity, against an application filed by Khujista Rehan with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Earlier, a counsel on behalf of Dr Nayab Batool argued that the FIA did not have the authority to carry out disciplinary proceedings against the petitioner.
He mentioned that a LHC single bench stopped FIA from taking disciplinary action against Dr Nayab through a stay order on a petition filed by her earlier.
At this stage, Khujista Rehan, who was present in the court, complained loudly that the single bench issued the stay order without hearing her stance.
However, the bench asked the academic to calm down, observing that she would be given a chance to state her point of view.
But, the academic continued her protest while ignoring the bench's repeated observations to calm down.
Subsequently, the bench issued a contempt notice to Khujista Rehan and sought her reply. The LHC security took the academic into its custody from the courtroom but she was released later.
