LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Dec, 2017 ) :The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday summoned University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore vice-chancellor in-person for December 20 on a petition, challenging appointments of registrar and controller examination of the university.
The single bench comprising Justice Shujaat Ali Khan passed the orders on a petition, filed by one Abdul Rauf. During the proceedings, the court was apprised that the university adminstration had not filed a reply to the petition despite given several opportunities for the purpose.
At this, the court took serious note of non-submission of the reply and summoned the VC in-person. The petitioner, through his counsel Shiraz Zaka, had submitted that it was mandatory that the registrar and controller examination have experience of 13 years.
However, Registrar Muhammad Asif and Controller Examination Zaigham Nusrat lack the required experience, he added. He further submitted that both appointments had been made in violation of statutory rules of the UET Officers' Appointment Act 1996.
He pleaded with the court to declare both appointments illegal. He also drew the attention of the court to the letters written by Punjab deputy director auditor general department and also by the Higher education Commission (HEC) which stated that the illegal appointments made by vice chancellor should be cancelled and both the registrar and controller examination should be appointed on merit.
