LWMC To Set New Records Of Cleanliness In 2019: MD LWMC

Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) Managing Director Farrukh Qayyum Butt on Wednesday said that the company would set new records of cleanliness during the year 2019 in provincial capital by utilizing its all available resources
Addressing a press conference here at a local hotel regarding department's 2018 performance report, he said that LWMC had disposed of more than 2,062,000 ton waste during the last year to ensure clean environment.
The company had taken prompt action on 61,500 complaints received at LWMC helpline 1139 during the year, he asserted.
The LWMC had issued 12,000 tickets of Rs20.3 million against those throwing garbage illegally, he said and added that more than 16,000 saplings had also been planted for converting Mehmood Boti dump site into a park.
The MD said that about 400 awareness campaigns regarding environment protection were held at parks, educational institutions, residential areas and other places, adding that the LWMC had also disposed of 603 ton hospital waste during 2018.
Farrukh Qayyum said that a project to produce energy from animals' waste was in progress. All efforts were being made to provide clean and healthy environment to the citizens, he maintained.
Awareness campaigns about environment would be launched as per community mobilization programme in current year as well, adding that cleanest community competitions would also be organized at union council level to aware the people about environmental challenges.
