ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Sep, 2018 ) :The President of Jammu and Kashmir Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen, Maulana Masroor Abbas, has said that popular martyred youth leader, Burhan Wani, is a martyr for every Kashmiri and those mourning the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) are an inseparable part of Kashmir struggle.
According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), Maulana Masroor Abbas said this while reacting to the reports that the Indian police is mulling to arrest the mourners who raise the portrait of Burhan Wani during the ongoing Muharram processions.
Addressing a Muharram procession in Srinagar, Maulana Masroor Abbas, said, "Burhan Wani is our martyr. We raised his portrait in our processions. We want freedom and we are not going to bow before the oppressor. Our commitment towards our martyrs is evidence enough that we are an inseparable part of Kashmir movement," he said.
"If police want to register an FIR they should begin with me.
I raised his (Burhan's) portrait. If they want to hang me for this I am ready," he said. he warned that if the police book a handful of people carrying Burhan's portrait, 50,000 people would court arrest.
Pertinently, the mourners have been seen chanting pro-Burhan slogans and displaying his pictures in the ongoing Muharram processions in the territory.
"We will continue to display photographs of our leaders and all those who are fighting oppression," Maulana Masroor Abbas said.
Meanwhile, residents of Naidyar, Rainawari area of Srinagar said that Indian police resorted to indiscriminate teargas shelling and smashed windowpanes after a row erupted over police objecting to a stall offering refreshments for mourners.
A resident said that the police were probably infuriated by a banner of Burhan Wani hanging from a wall.
