MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2018 ) :Over 700-year old mausoleum of Hazrat Bibi Rasti Pak Daman, the mother of renowned saint Hazrat Shah Rukn-e-Alam, is in dilapidated condition and needs immediate measures for its repair and restoration.
According to officials of Auqaf and Archeology departments, the roof of the mausoleum's verandah has been decaying fast with broken wooden arches and some temporary measures have been taken to keep the structure intact.
One of the wooden arches is broken at its foot and the gap has been filled by putting some bricks. Similarly, logs have been placed at four points in the perpendicular to support the roof. Hazrat Bibi Pak Daman was the daughter-in-law of Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya (RA) and wife of Sheikh Sadar-ud-Din (RA).
She was also known as Bibi Rasti. Her tomb is situated at the graveyard named after her as Bibi Pak Mai Graveyard. It is situated near the old City Railway Station, Multan. In old times, there was a palace and a garden of Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya at this place.
There is a fountain known as Bibi Pak Daman tomb.
There are graves of many women in the corridor of Bibi Rasti mausoleum. Archaeology Department Incharge Malik Ghulam Muhammad said the mausoleum was under the administration of Auqaf Department.
Zonal Administrator Auqaf Zia Mustafa said the department had awarded the contract to a contractor for the restoration of roof of the verandah a few years ago. However, work could not begin as the contractor failed to find around 20 feet long wooden beams which were required for the restoration of roof.
He said he took over the charge only six months ago. XEN Auqaf Rafiq Wattu said a joint committee comprising the Deputy Director (Architecture) Auqaf, SDO Auqaf and SDO Archaeology was formed a few years ago for the restoration of the verandah's roof.
The committee was expected to meet next week, he added. Officials of both archaeology and Auqaf departments believe that the monument needs full conservation and restoration as almost all parts of the mausoleum, including its verandah's roof, were damaged.
