ISLAMABAD, Jan 3 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 03rd Jan, 2017 ) : Non-practising female doctors would provide quality healthcare with minimum charges to the beneficiaries of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).
The initiative has been taken by BISP in collaboration with Docthers, `an organization' which connects home based qualified female physicians to underprivileged populations via nurse -assisted video consultations in nine Tele-Medicine Centers across Pakistan.
Five Tele-Medicine Centers were located in Karachi while three were at Hafizabad, Mansehra and Dhadhar respectively, an official of BISP told APP. He informed that Docthers would provide healthcare to BISP beneficiaries at concessional rates in all of its centers.
He said according to Pakistan Medical and Dental Council Statistics-2015, every year more than 14,000 women graduated from medical schools but only 50 percent practice.
Out of the 70,000 licensed female physicians, barely 9,000 are practising doctors.
He said they requested all of 61,000 non-practising female doctors to come forward and assume an active role towards improving health conditions in the country. The official said they can benefit from the platform of Docthers and contribute towards the welfare of society from their homes.
BISP official added that their contribution will also help BISP beneficiaries as 5.3 million beneficiaries across Pakistan need quality healthcare. He said they wish to develop at least one Tele-Medicine Center in each district of the country so that all BISP beneficiaries, on equal basis, get advantage of the cheap and quality healthcare at concessional rates.
