Palm Oil Critical Food Item In Pakistan: Malaysian CG

KARACHI, Nov 8 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 09th Nov, 2016 ) : The Malaysian Palm Oil was a critical food item in Pakistan and is the largest importer from Malaysian. This was pointed out by the Consul General of Malaysia in Karachi, Ismail Bin Muhammad, on Wednesday.
He was speaking at a seminar organized by Karachi University's Department of Food Science and Technology at the Campus. It was pointed out that Pakistan imports more than two million tons of Malaysian Palm Oil in an year.
The Consul General of Malaysia in Karachi Ismail Bin Muhammad said that Malaysia and Pakistan enjoy exemplary relations and collaboration between Karachi University and Malaysian Palm Oil board was commendable.
He was optimistic that this collaboration will grow further in future. Palm oil is a quite familiar food item in Malaysia but not much familiar in Pakistan despite the fact it is a critical food item in the Pakistani food industry.
Malaysian government ensures that it exports best quality palm oil to Pakistan, the Consul General said. He hoped that this particular program will be helpful for Pakistani students and teachers to develop a good amount of expertise and know how about palm oil and its uses in the food industry.
The topic of the seminar was `Palm Oil: Industrial, Health and Economic Benefits' and was organized by KU Department of Food Science and Technology in collaboration with ORIC Karachi University and Malaysian Palm Oil Board.
The Consul General thanked Vice Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser, Prof. Dr. Abid Hasnain and Director ORIC KU Prof. Dr. Aliya Rehman for organizing this seminar in collaboration with Malaysian Palm Oil Board.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser welcomed the Consul General of Malaysia Ismail Bin Muhammad at Karachi University and added that Pakistan and Malaysia enjoys cordial ties and it will further grow in future due to academic and research linkages between varsities and industries of both the countries.
It is in the common interest of the academia to develop linkages among the varsities of both the nations. Pakistan is the largest importer of Malaysian Palm Oil and imports more than 2 million ton of Malaysian Palm Oil in an year.
Prof. Dr. Abid Hasnain, former Chairperson Department of Food Science and technology KU, said that collaboration between academia and industries of Malaysian Palm Oil are pivotal in order to have a better understanding of Malaysian Palm Oil in Pakistan.
The purpose of this seminar is to create a greater awareness about the significance and use of Malaysian Palm Oil in Pakistani food items, he added. Regional Manager Malaysian Palm Oil Board Fairus Hidzir thanked the University of Karachi for collaborating for this particular program and briefed the audience about the functions of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board and the uses of Malaysian Palm Oil in Pakistan.
Prof. Dr. Aliya Rehman Director ORIC announced on the occasion that soon an MoU between KU ORIC and Malaysian Palm Oil Board will be signed and that will be a great step towards the linkages between academia and industry. Karachi University ORIC is committed to promote linkages between academia and industries, she added.
