ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Feb, 2018 ) :Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Haider Khan called on Minister for Climate Change Senator Mushahidullah Khan here at Ministry of Climate Change and discussed matters of mutual interest.
During the meeting, Senator Mushahidullah Khan highlighted that Azad Jammu Kashmir, Gilgilt Baltistan, and Khyber Pukhtunkhwa has majority of forest covers of Pakistan. He said according to United Nations any country must have 25 per cent of forest cover on its area, however Pakistan has less than 5 per cent forest cover on its land.
He further added deforestation in Pakistan is not only due to excessive use of wood mainly for fuel but also due to timbre mafias.
He further floated the idea that Pakistan must import wood from countries having large forest cover.
"We can reduce import duty on wood so we can import cheap wood and save our own forest," he added. Farooq Haider on the occasion said "we got support from Green Pakistan Program and Neelum Power Hydro Project to increase our forest cover and we are also working on man-made forests." he added.
The meeting was attended Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change Ms.Romina Khursheed Alam and representatives from government of AJK.
