LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Dec, 2018 ) :Federal Minister for Privatization Muhammad Mian Soomro said on Monday that privatization of two power plants each at Ballocki, Okara and Haveli Bahadur Shah, Jhang, had been approved and implementation to this effect would be ensured in next seven to eight months.
Talking to media at an annual dinner hosted by Diocese of Church here, he said the government was reviewing the privatization of a number of other institutions including banks and insurance companies, while keeping in view the market situation so as to ensure that these institutions should be privatized at a handsome price in accordance with their actual market value.
To a question, he explained that PTI had not been against the privatization but wanted transparency in its process, adding that present government policy on privatization would be clear and as per best interest of the country.
He said the incumbent government was striving hard to revive and strengthen the institutions including Pakistan Steel Mills, which had been closed down since June 2015, and the PIA, which was also running into billions of rupees losses, and "We are taking measures to overcome the PIA losses.
" Earlier addressing the ceremony, Muhammad Mian Soomro said that respect for others and human services were common values of every religion. Minority communities had great importance in Pakistan and "I am all the time available to resolve your problems," he assured the Christian community.
The Federal Minister also appreciated the Christian community's contributions in various sectors especially education, health and others, asserting that recent initiative of promotion of technical education by this community would prove to be a milestone in the country's socio-economic development. This initiative, he opined, would enable the youth to earn their livelihood at their own.
The Christian community, he added, had also been contributing a lot in the provision of nursing staff in hospitals of the country.
Later on, Muhammad Mian Soomro along with Bishop Azad Marshal also cut a Christmas cake and distributed gifts among teaching staff of the Christian's missionary schools, clergy men and the organizers of the event.
