Quaidians resolve to protect every inch of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) land

The participants of dialouge titled "Land issue of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU)" have resolved to protect every inch of varsity land and no compromise till the handing over of 1709 acres

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jan, 2019 ) :The participants of dialouge titled "Land issue of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU)" have resolved to protect every inch of varsity land and no compromise till the handing over of 1709 acres.

They also resolved that efforts to be continued till removal of complete encroachments over 298 acres of QAU land.

The activity was organised here by Quaid-i-Azam University Alumni Association, and attended by the senior Quaidians, members of Joint Action Committee (JAC), faculty, officers, employees and students.

After reviewing recent developments regarding anti-encrochment drive on university land, it was also unamiously resolved that no compromise would be made over prestige of top ranked federal university.

During the interactive dialogue, it was apprised that QAU administration made full payment of 1709 Acres land to Capital Development Authority (CDA) many decades ago which was admitted by the CDA in its formal reply at Supreme Court.

CDA also reconciled it in written during latest meeting held between QAU management and Capital Development Authority officials.

It was also informed that National Assembly Standing Committee on Federal education and Professional Education in its meeting held on 30th May, 2018 directed QAU administration to ensure removal of illegal encroachments over its land through issuing evacuation notices with a clear-cut deadline, disconnection of utilities of illegal inhabitants and evacuation of area from illegal occupants.

The recent anti-encroachment drive is in accordance with the directives of the standing Committee as well.

The meeting also demanded to the Prime Minister that as per commitment of federal government, the anti-occupation drive should continue till the last inch of QAU encroached land was physicality restored to the university administration according to scientifically done demarcation of land by Survey of Pakistan in its report prepared in 2017.

The meeting also demanded that concerned government departments must fulfil responsibility of handing over peaceful possession of complete parcel of 1709 acres of land, including 152 acres short delivered, for which it received full price decades ago.

The panelists of the dialogue included President QAU Alumni Association Sikandar Ahmed Rai, President Academic Staff Association, senior scientist and analysts Dr Parvez Hoodbhoy, President Academic Staff Association QAU Dr Aqeel Bukhari, senior scientist and former first elected President of QAU students union Dr Muhammad Sohaib, former Advisor Higher Education CommissionTalat Khurshid, Secretary General QAU Alumni Association Murtaza Noor, Project Director QAU and Focal Person Bakhat Rehman, Qari Yasin Vice President Officers Welfare Association.

The panelists also responded to various questions raised by the participants especially students. During this session, it was informed that illegal encroachments have severely affected the development and expansion work at the University campus.

The removal of illegal encroachments has also become need of the time to undertake construction of new academic blocks, hostels, labs, play grounds, student centres.

It will also be helpful in meeting the growing needs of increasing population of more than twelve thousand enrolled QAU students.

It was also decided that all possible measures would be undertaken to help the university in reclaimingit prized land asset and consolidate its possession with necessary marking and erection of boundarywall to allow students to live peacefully and enjoy campus life.
