Punjab government has released a sum of Rs 17.5 million for on-going schemes of conservation of three monuments and heritage sites in south Punjab
MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Dec, 2018 ) -:Punjab government has released a sum of Rs 17.5 million for on-going schemes of conservation of three monuments and heritage sites in south Punjab.
A sum of Rs 3.5 million was released for conservation of an ancient site from Buddhist period, Mound Dillu Roy,in Jampur tahsil of district Dera Ghazi Khan.Rupees 10 million out of overall Rs. 17 million project has already been utilized during last fiscal year.
Remaining Rs 3.5 million is expected in February 2019 for overall completion of the project in fiscal year 2018-19.
Incharge Archaeology department Multan, Malik Ghulam Muhammad told APP that 5000 feet long boundary wall around Mound Dillu Roy has been completed and remaining 1400-1500 feet wall would be completed soon. Archaeological exploration under this project would begin from mid of January next.
The site is located exactly on the border line of Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan districts and a study of the site and the objects discovered revealed that it was occupied by the Buddhists in the Scytho-Parthian period dating back to the Ist century B.
C. to 2nd century A.C.
Secondly,a sum of Rs 5 million has been released for conservation of over 400 years old mosque built by Sher Shah Suri in Bheera,Sargodha.The overall cost of the project was over Rs 40 million and a sum of Rs 13 million was utilized during last fiscal year to complete its underpinning, brick flooring,application of glazed lime plaster on its domes,and restoration of fresco work.
Rupees 10 million was allocated for the year 2018-19, however, half of it has already been released.
Furthermore, Punjab government has also released a sum of Rs 9 million for conservation of ancient sites of Harappa and completion of an auditorium at the site.
The overall project cost was around Rs 52 million. A sum of Rs 5 million would be spent on developing and widening the walkways this year to facilitate tourists visiting these remains of ancient civilizations.For elderly persons,women and children,a tourist van open from all four sides would operate on the walkways,it was learnt.
