Social Media Platforms Replaces Culture Of Eid Cards, SMS

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th May, 2019 ) :Most of the people specially Youth turns to social media platforms for reaching out to each other instead of sharing Eid wishes with old tradition of Eid cards and SMS through mobile phones.

The culture of writing letters and sending Eid cards is fast diminishing in present society not only in Pakistan but across the world. Eid greetings can now be sent across the mile through e-card, e-mail and so on.

People used to send Eid cards to relatives, friends and loved ones at the arrival of Eids whether Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid-ul Azha. This trend is almost no more because of too much use of advancement in technology that not only ensures timely delivery but a quickly reply also.

The business community and booksellers also admitted that the Eid greeting cards business has been dying down with the availability of the E-card service available on social media platforms.

A printing company worker said people have lost their interest and opted for sharing greetings through electronic means.

A shopkeeper Asad Nomi said that the tradition of sending eid cards to loved ones to with greetings had become a part of history.

Once, we used to earn well from Eid cards since people of all age groups showed a great interest.

Social media sites and instant messaging apps, including the Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Whatsapp, have been flooded with 'Eid Mubarak' greetings for a couple of days before the Eid day, said 20 year old Sobia Zia.

"We used to exchange different kinds of Eid cards with unique designs and texts, once. I even remember there being some musical cards back in the day. I loved opening them repeatedly," a citizen recalled, adding, "children these days do not even know what an Eid card is." Eid card business used to flourish after mid of Ramazan and continued until Chand Raat, said Zia Khan, a shopkeeper who ever displayed hundreds of greeting cards on every Eid and other greeting occasions.

Another social media user , said, the day before Eid, my friends also made posts to greet me and othersso its a easy way to wish others instead of SMS services and old method of Eid cards.

"Eid was totally celebrated in different manner in our childhood. We exchanged eid gifts and greeting cards with friends, now we only receive a social media posts."
