Three-Day `National Calligraphy Exhibition' To Begin From January 24

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Jan, 2017 ) : National History and Literary Heritage (NHLH) Division will hold three-day `National Calligraphy Exhibition' from January 24 here at National Art Gallery, Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA).
The objective of the event is to revive the diminishing art of Calligraphy. This was announced by Advisor to Prime Minister on National History and Literary Heritage (NHLH), Irfan Siddiqui during a meeting held here which finalized the arrangements for conducting this exhibition.
Speaking in the meeting, Irfan Siddiqui said more than 100 calligraphic art pieces would be showcased in the exhibition by around 50 new talented as well as professional Calligraphers from across the country.
He said Calligraphy carries a significant place in Islamic arts and is deeply linked with our culture and civilization. The art of calligraphy has evolved into various forms of arts after the revelation of the Holy Quran and this journey still continues.
Irfan Siddiqui observed that South Asian countries especially Pakistan and Iran have played great role in the promotion of Nastaleeq Font. He said this exhibition is being arranged to educate our younger generation about the legacy of our forefathers, introduce the prominent calligraphic works of the artists and encouraging the young calligraphers to keep alive this unique and ancient visual form of art.
Irfan Siddiqui said a special corner would be set up in the exhibition for the young calligraphers to display their art work. The meeting was attended by Federal Secretary, National History and Literary Heritage, Aamir Hassan, managing Director National Book foundation, Dr.Inam-ul-Haq Javed, renowned Calligrapher, Rasheed Butt, Director General, Pakistan academy of Letters, Dr.
Rashid Hameed, young emerging Calligrapher, Wasil Shahid and representatives of the division and other attached departments.
