Ministry of Human Rights and Capital Development Authority Tuesday passed on buck to each other over the issue of women hostels, proposed a decade ago for which an hefty amount of Rs 60 million was also released.
Talking on the issue an official Muhammad Khawaja from Ministry of Human Rights said the government, some twelve years ago, has allocated 60 million for the construction of working women hostels in G6/2 and G7/3 but the project was still in cold storage as CDA could not allocate land for the purpose. He alleged that CDA was playing delaying tactics due to which the projects could not be materialized.
He said commission was sincere to resolve the issue of women hostels and was also extending space in the current buildings to accommodate more women.
To a question he admitted that the institutions in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were facing problems in getting an accommodation due to the shortage of hostels.
When contacted a CDA official said the CDA had allocate land 12 year ago but the MoHR could not manage to construct these hostels and money allocated for the purpose also relapsed twice.
He further said now it was the prerogative of Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation which must be consulted for the purpose.
In the meantime women have demanded more hostels as for living in private hostels they have to pay a hefty amount of rent and also face many problems including lack of security, quality meal and pure water etc.
Talking to APP, Yasmeen a student said that many students who come to the twin cities from various parts of the country with an aim to study in best educational institutions were forced to live in private hostels where biggest issue was their security.
