Women Register Their Worth By Adopting Profession Of Carpentry

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Nov, 2018 ) :Carpentry, a profession only confined to the males in our society,is now becoming woman's choice and a number of them in the garrison city have started exhibiting their worth shoulder to shoulder with men.
Elaborating her story a carpenter Amna, resident of Banni said "Women are making their marks and are equally contributing in the nation's economy against the myth of lack of confidence, market-oriented risks and social-cultural hindrances".
She said, "When I realized that boys were capable of collecting wood and turning it into good furniture and making money, I decided I should learn to do the same. I'm competing with men for marketing products, and making furniture." She said that after three months' training with an expert male carpenter, she started making traditional small chairs.
It was a very difficult decision to enter in a profession since long dominated by males only, she said. "And carrying carpenter's traditional instrument like, saws and hammers etc was not an easy go but with the passage of time I manged to do it because after the death of my father I am only a breadwinner of my six family members. I am the eldest one and it was my responsibility to carry the whole burden," she added.
She said she was discouraged by people and criticized for choosing this profession but it was better to earn livelihood with own hands than to seek alms and begging Amna said she has to break her education after intermediate due to financial crisis after after her father's departure but "it was my passion to become a skilled person".
Another carpenter Rozina, Working in a furniture manufacturing unit at college road Rawalpindi, said she was proud to adopt this field and as it was well paying and she could mange to fulfill her family's basic amenities of life with ease. She said her father was ill and bed-ridden and she has to support her three family members. The courageous Rozina said she was also carrying on her studies and attends classes in government collage woman.
She said she had also to go through sever criticism of relatives but when I proved that dignity was to earn livelihood and feed the family not to seek alms are get involved in illegal trades. "Now the people have started realizing my efforts and have started praising and taunt young shirk-worker males a quote my success." She said initially she was manufacturing chairs and tables.
She said it was a good omen that our women were entering in to those professions only confined to men and contributing to the country's development. She also hinted a positive change in society's behavior towards women which was a source of encouragement for them to enter this kind of profession.
