Zero Waste Policy To Be Implemented Within One Week: Minister

Senior Minister Punjab Abdul Aleem Khan on Wednesday directed the Solid Waste Management Companies (SWMC) to implement Zero Waste Policy within one-week.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Nov, 2018 ) :Senior Minister Punjab Abdul Aleem Khan on Wednesday directed the Solid Waste Management Companies (SWMC) to implement Zero Waste Policy within one-week.
He directed that instead of dumping waste, SWMC should adopt concrete steps to utilize this through recycling process.
He said that by recycling garbage multiple products like fertilizers, chipboards, hardware, various gases, electricity and other products could be produced which would also be helpful for the masses to have a clean and healthy atmosphere instead of having heaps there.
He expressed these views while chairing a high level meeting on solid waste management and completion of construction work on orange train at 90 Shahra-e-Qauid here.
Abdul Aleem Khan said that dumping the waste in various places not only create pollution, contaminate ground water but also spread deadly diseases like Hepatitis and many others.
He said that it was high time to prepare products by recycling these waste which would not only clean environment but also helps to generate funds.
The minister criticized the PML-N former government and said that a huge amount of Rs 1.25 billion had monthly been spent on waste management of Lahore City and despite working of 16 thousand employees desired results were not achieved.
He criticized that only two companies were running these projects, now in future new companies would be hired on merit.
The minister directed all the officers to visit field and personally monitor cleaning activities.
Moreover, Abdul Aleem Khan also reviewed the status of pending construction work of Orange Line Train and ordered concerned departments to complete it in the shortest time.
He said that cost of such expensive project was increasing day by day, and the government has to complete this project at earliest for avoiding further loss.
He also directed to commercialize all the stations of orange train to private companies, banks and others for advertisement purposes which help would help to generate revenue. The Punjab government could not afford to payheavy subsidy on Orange Line Train, permanently, he added.
