Former Russian playmaker Andrey Arshavin, who led the Russian team into the semi-finals of Euro 2008, has been named among 34 football "legends" who will be ambassadors for the Euro 2020 championship, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) said on Thursday
"UEFA has announced the initial line-up of UEFA EURO 2020 ambassadors tasked with promoting the final tournament, which will take place in 12 European cities from 12 June to 12 July 2020 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the competition," the statement from the European administrative body for football said.
Arshavin was named among "thirty-four legends who have marked the history" of the championship, according to the UEFA. Arshavin officially ended his playing career in 2018 and started pursuing a new path as a coach.
UEFA Euro 2020 starts with the European Qualifiers that are to be held later in the day. The organization said that, for the first time, all 55 member associations will partake in the tournament.
The championship will be held across 12 cities: Amsterdam, Baku, Bilbao, Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Dublin, Glasgow, London, Munich, Rome and St. Petersburg.
