PYEONGCHANG, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Mar, 2018 ) :Two South Korean para athletes have been named among six finalists for the top Paralympic Games award, the organizers unveiled Tuesday.

Nordic skier Sin Eui-hyun and visually-impaired alpine skier Yang Jae-rim were among the six finalists for the Whang Youn Dai Achievement Award, which is named after a South Korean doctor who advocated for people with disabilities for more than 50 years.

The award, which was established by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) at the 1988 Seoul Summer Paralympics, has been given to two athletes -- a male and a female -- at the end of each Paralympic Games.

It is presented to Paralympians who best exemplify the spirit of the Games and the Paralympic values.

Sin, 37, won South Korea's first medal at the PyeongChang Paralympics on Sunday after taking bronze in the men's 15-kilometer sitting cross-country skiing event.

He'll vie for the award with Vitaliy Luk'yanenko, a visually-impaired Nordic skier from Ukraine, and Adam Hall, a para alpine skier from New Zealand. Yang, 28, is an alpine skier with a visual impairment.

She competes in the sport with her guide Go Unsori. The two other female candidates are Danelle Umstead of the United States, who competes in alpine skiing with a visual impairment, and Sini Pyy of Finland, a sit skier who competes in biathlon and cross-country skiing events. The IPC said the winners will be announced on Thursday.
