China's Tiangong-2 Space Lab to Leave Orbit After July 2019 - Chief Engineer

China's Tiangong-2 space lab has fulfilled its mission and will be taken out of orbit after July 2019, chief engineer of China's space lab system Zhu Zongpeng said on Wednesday.

BEIJING (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 26th September, 2018) China's Tiangong-2 space lab has fulfilled its mission and will be taken out of orbit after July 2019, chief engineer of China's space lab system Zhu Zongpeng said on Wednesday.

"After two years of the lab's full-time operation, it has been decided to take Tiangong-2 out of orbit under manual control after July 2019," Zhu said as quoted in a statement published on the official WeChat account of China's spaceflight program.

The space lab has been in orbit for 738 days, with all of its modules functioning properly, Zhu added.

The Tiangong-2 space laboratory was launched in September 2016 and is designed to probe life support technologies for China's permanent space station.
