Trump said in September that China was trying to "meddle" in the November US midterm elections. According to the president, China does not want him or his supporters to win, specifically, because of his tough policy on trade.

Facebook and Twitter representatives told Bloomberg news agency that they had not found any evidence so far that China had been leading any online disinformation campaigns.

Additionally, the US intelligence community said last week that the election systems appeared safe from interference attempts. The US intelligence community and law enforcement agencies do not have any evidence that election infrastructure has been compromised to enable adversaries to tamper with the upcoming midterm elections, the office of the Director of National Intelligence said in a joint statement with the FBI, the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security.
