Number of DDoS Attacks on Banks Worldwide Increased by 90% in 2018 - Report

The number of DDoS attacks on banks globally has risen by 90 percent in 2018, while the attacks on microfinance organizations and Forex markets decreased by 43 percent and 67 points respectively, a report by the DDoS mitigation services provider Qrator Labs showed on Friday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 07th December, 2018) The number of DDoS attacks on banks globally has risen by 90 percent in 2018, while the attacks on microfinance organizations and forex markets decreased by 43 percent and 67 points respectively, a report by the DDoS mitigation services provider Qrator Labs showed on Friday.

DDoS attacks have drastically increased on online cash registers by 836 percent as well as on the insurance sector by 195 percent, the report indicated.

Social networks, cryptocurrency exchanges and online gambling also lead among the industries that suffer most from DDoS attacks, with growth in this sectors standing at 47 percent, 54 percent and 143 percent respectively, according to the findings.

In general, over 85,000 DDoS attacks have been neutralized over 2018, an increase from the previous year, when the number stood at more than 61,000 attacks. At the same time, the average number has jumped from 180 attacks to 255, according to the services provider.

A DDoS attack is an attempt at making an online service unavailable by overwhelming it with traffic from multiple sources.
