Production Defect on Crashed Soyuz-FG Rocket Was Likely Accidental - Roscosmos Chief

A production defect on the crashed Soyuz-FG rocket was likely accidental, Russia's Roscosmos state space corporation head Dmitry Rogozin said on Monday, adding that Russian law enforcement bodies were looking for those responsible for the fault.

[The production defect] was likely accidental," Rogozin said at a press conference held at the Rossiya Segodnya Information Agency media center in Moscow.

On October 11, a Soyuz-FG rocket carrying Russian cosmonaut Alexei Ovchinin and NASA astronaut Nick Hague malfunctioned about two minutes after the liftoff, sending their escape capsule into a steep fall back to Earth. The crew members were not harmed.
