ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 23rd, 2025) The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Wednesday forecast heavy rains accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow across various regions including Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northeastern Balochistan.
The department also warned of possible flooding in local streams and nullahs.
The PMD said that during the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall with thunderstorms occurred in Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. In some places, extremely heavy rain was recorded. Other parts of the country remained hot and humid.
The highest rainfall was recorded in Attock with 133 mm, followed by 104 mm in Lahore. In contrast, areas such as Dalbandin, Nokundi, and Dadu recorded extremely high temperatures of 46°C, 45°C, and 43°C respectively.
The PMD further stated that more heavy rain with thunderstorms is expected tonight and tomorrow (Thursday) in Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northeastern Balochistan. Torrential downpours are likely in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, the Pothohar region, northeastern Punjab, and Kashmir.
In southern parts of the country, hot and humid weather is expected to persist. The department also warned that due to the intense rainfall, low-lying areas in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Okara, Nowshera, and Peshawar are at risk of urban flooding.
Additionally, there is a risk of landslides in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, which could disrupt road traffic. The PMD cautioned that heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds may disturb daily routines and damage vulnerable infrastructure such as mud houses, walls, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.
In Islamabad and surrounding areas, partly cloudy skies with chances of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected. Similarly, rain with strong winds and thunder is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Shangla, Malakand, Peshawar, Nowshera, Swabi, Bajaur, Mardan, Kurram, Khyber, Orakzai, Hangu, Kohat, Bannu, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan.
