Brussels police officers have detained around 100 people on Saturday in connection with an unsanctioned yellow vest protest in the Belgian capital, Ilse Van de Keere, a spokeswoman of the Brussels police's central department, told Sputnik.
"Around 100 people have already been detained," she said.
Van de Keere specified that these were mainly preventive administrative detentions related to detection of "dangerous or suspicions objects" in possession of individuals.
Although the spokeswoman did not specify the number of police officers engaged in keeping order, she said that "presence had been reinforced."
A Sputnik correspondent reported that Brussels police had blocked the passage to certain busy streets in order to prevent groups of protesters from entering.
Special units of the Brussels police are traveling across the city in trucks, while police are also patting down all suspicious individuals coming from the city's train stations.
A group of protesters is currently moving along a road in the center of the city and hindering traffic. The protesters are exploding fireworks.
Another group of protesters has currently stopped near the European Quarter, where diplomatic missions of a number of countries are located.
On November 30, yellow vests protests were held in Brussels, which resulted in dozens of detentions.
The demonstration followed weeks of similar rallies against fuel tax increases, which have been raging in mainland France and its overseas territories since November 17.
