MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd September, 2021) Britney Spears' lawyer has asked the court to remove the singer's father as her conservator immediately, as the star's battle to end the conservatorship entirely continues, US media reported on Thursday.
Mathew Rosengart filed the request on Wednesday, asking a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to name a temporary legal guardian for Spears, while her team was considering next steps, the NBC reported.
The Los Angeles court is already reviewing a petition filed by Spears' legal team in July to oust James Spears and appoint public accountant Jason Rubin as successor to the 39-year-old's conservatorship.
James Spears conceded that he would eventually stand down but did not name a date.
The new filing is reportedly in anticipation of the court asking Spear's lawyers to present a termination plan, which will take time.
"In the interim, we are moving forward with our July 26, 2021 Petition for the Suspension of James P. Spears, which is a prerequisite to the immediate restoration of my client's dignity and fundamental rights," Rosengart was quoted as saying.
Both petitions are expected to be heard by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny next week, NBC said. Rosengart said he had asked the court to go over financial accusations against the singer's father for the time being.
