Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte told reporters on Tuesday, at the end of Palermo Conference for Libya, that he had never been worried that Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Khalifa Haftar might skip the meeting.
A source in the LNA told Sputnik on Sunday that Haftar would not attend the international meeting on the Libyan settlement, however, the commander did arrive at the conference on Monday.
"I don't know what role was played by other countries or other friends, what I do know is that I was never worried that [Haftar] would not come," Conte said.
The Italian prime minister said he had spoken with Haftar about his attendance prior to the meeting.
"At the end of this long discussion that we had, he promised, he gave me his word of honor that he would come to this conference," Conte said.
