ATHENS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th September, 2018) The possible visit of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to Russia is being discussed now, but the issue has not been settled yet, the Greek government's spokesman, Dimitris Tzanakopoulos, told reporters on Tuesday.
"The prime minister answered this question at the Saloniki Fair. The discussions have continued since that time. I cannot rule out the visit, I cannot foresee it," Tzanakopoulos said asked whether Tsipras was going to visit Russia.
Earlier in September, Tsipras said that he had been invited to visit Russia in 2018, adding that the diplomats of the two countries would prepare his visit.
On September 11, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said that the issue of Tsipras' visit, to happen by the end of the year, had not been discussed yet.
Discussions about the visit are taking place amid the diplomatic crisis in the Russian-Greek relations, sparked by Athens deciding to expel two Russian diplomats and ban two more from entering the country over national security concerns. Russia responded by expelling two Greek diplomats.
