Israeli Jets Were in Israel's Airspace When Syria Launched Missile That Hit Il-20 - IDF

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) fighters were within Israel's airspace when the Syrian military launched a missile that shot down the Russian Il-20 military aircraft, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th September, 2018) The Israeli Air Force (IAF) fighters were within Israel's airspace when the Syrian military launched a missile that shot down the Russian Il-20 military aircraft, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Tuesday.

"When the Syrian Army launched the missiles that hit the Russian plane, IAF jets were already within Israeli airspace ... During the strike against the target in Latakia, the Russian plane that was then hit was not within the area of the operation," the IDF wrote on Twitter.

The military noted that the incident was caused by "extensive and inaccurate" fire of Syrian air defense systems.
