PARIS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th February, 2019) French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the situation in Syria and Ukraine in phone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Macron's office said on Saturday.

"The president of the Republic held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart about Syria and Ukraine," the statement by the Elysee Palace read.

The French-Russian coordination mechanism should promote the continued fight against terrorism, protection of civilians and finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria under the aegis of the United Nations, according to the statement.
