Maduro's Government Fully In Control Over Situation In Venezuela - Russian Ambassador

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his government remain perfectly in control over the situation in the country and enjoys support of the Venezuelan military, Russian Ambassador in Caracas Vladimir Zaemskiy told Sputnik

MEXICO CITY (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th March, 2019) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his government remain perfectly in control over the situation in the country and enjoys support of the Venezuelan military, Russian Ambassador in Caracas Vladimir Zaemskiy told Sputnik.

"As of now, Nicolas Maduro's government enjoys full control over the situation in the country, he is supported by all branches of power, except for the opposition-led National Assembly, which has been stripped of its powers by the decision of the republic's Supreme Court," the ambassador said.

The diplomat noted that the Venezuelan armed forces also remained loyal to the president despite speculations claiming that a significant number of military personnel had switched sides and had joined the opposition after February's attempt to force unauthorized US-sponsored humanitarian aid into the country.

�Tensions in Venezuela escalated in January when US-backed opposition leader Juan Guaido illegally declared himself interim president. Washington immediately endorsed Guaido and called on Maduro to step down. Russia, China, Cuba and a number of other countries have reaffirmed their support for Maduro as Venezuela's only legitimate president and called for non-interference in Venezuela's internal affairs.

Maduro, in turn, has accused Guaido of conspiring with the United States to overthrow the country's legitimate government including by organizing the delivery of the so-called humanitarian as part of a plan to justify US military intervention.
