MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd April, 2019) The blast that took place near a church in the Kochchikade district of Sri Lanka's Colombo earlier on Monday was a controlled explosion that was carried out by bomb squads, local media reported, citing the police.

On Easter Sunday, the country was hit by a series of coordinated bombings in churches and hotels, which killed at least 290 people and left another 500 injured.

Earlier on Monday, local media reported about an explosion near St. Anthony's church in Colombo.

According to the Ada Derana news portal, the police's Special Task Force (STF) performed a controlled explosion to diffuse an explosive device found in a van parked near the church.

It was reportedly the data obtained from questioning the suspects, arrested in the wake of the Sunday explosions, that helped find the suspected vehicle.

As of Monday, at least 24 people were detained in connection with the attacks.
