MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th August, 2018) A new common ground is emerging in Russia-EU economic cooperation, and it may be helpful in restoring trust between Moscow and Brussels, speaker of the Russian parliament's upper house Valentina Matvienko said.
"The European Union is one of [Russias] major economic partners. A new common ground is emerging in this field. We hope that it will eventually give an impetus to rebuilding trust in Russia-EU relations," Matvienko said in an interview with the International Affairs magazine.
The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, held on July 16 in Helsinki, was important for positive changes in Russia-US relations, the lawmaker noted, adding that these changes would be possible only if they were not blocked by certain US politicians.
The speaker also stressed the importance of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) association and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) for the establishment of a new world order.
